Who we are

A room where five languages sit down together.

We are a free, pentecostal-charismatic church in Herten — small enough that somebody notices when you are missing, wide enough that five languages fit inside it.

We exist so that nobody in this region has to be spiritually homeless.

Every other free church around Recklinghausen meets in German, on a Sunday morning. That works beautifully — unless you work Sundays, or you have been in Germany eight months and the language is still a wall. Testimony Arena was built for the people who fall through that gap: internationals, shift workers, families with two passports, and anyone who simply never found a room where they could exhale.

01 — 05 · WHAT IS TRUE OF US

Five things that are simply true.

  1. 01

    An open church

    No membership form, no gate, no inner circle you have to earn your way into. The doors face outwards. If you walked in tonight you would be treated exactly like the person who has been here for years.

  2. 02

    Multicultural, on purpose

    The Ruhr area has been built by people who came from somewhere else — and so has this church. Nations sit in the same rows here, and nobody is the guest of anybody.

  3. 03

    Generations together

    Grandparents, working parents, students and children in one room rather than sorted into separate buildings. It is louder that way. It is also how a family actually looks.

  4. 04

    Five languages, one room

    English carries the evening, and Deutsch, Nederlands, Español and Français carry the conversations around it. Nobody has to leave their mother tongue at the door.

  5. 05

    Registered in Germany

    Testimony Arena gUG (haftungsbeschränkt) is a registered non-profit with a public address at Sophienstraße 3 in Herten. Not a movement without a postcode — a church you can find on a map and call on the phone.

Why the heart is on fire

“Were not our hearts burning within us…”

That is the sentence behind our logo: a heart drawn in one unbroken line, with a flame rising out of it. Testimony means the story you carry out of a room — what actually changed. Arena means we say it out loud, in front of people, instead of keeping it polite and private.

What you can expect from us

Four promises, and no small print.

  1. 01

    Nothing is asked of you

    No money at the door, no list, no name badge. You will not be asked to speak, sing, stand up or say anything about yourself — not on your first evening, and not on your tenth.

  2. 02

    Nobody chases you

    We will not call to ask why you were not there last week. If you come once and never again, that is a completely acceptable outcome and it changes nothing about how you are treated.

  3. 03

    Hard questions get honest answers

    Including “we don’t know”. You can ask about money, about leadership, about what we believe and why — out loud, in front of everybody, and you will get a straight answer.

  4. 04

    The door opens outwards

    If you decide this is not for you, you walk out of the same door you came in through with your dignity fully intact. That is what an open church means in practice.
